Neurological MRI|PET Scans in Texas US

The Latest News in MRI vs PET Scans

While MRI and PET Scans have been around for a few decades, they are now proving to be particularly useful in the treatment and diagnosis of neurological disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) gives the doctor a picture of how the brain learns. The MRI gives incredibly detailed picture of the patient’s anatomy allowing the doctor to look at a minuscule section of the body, in this case the brain. This scan allows doctors to see how rapidly the disease is progressing. Above all the many benefits of using this noninvasive procedure is the lower risk of lethal reaction.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scans uses tracers to highlight the chemical imbalances in the body typically where there is disease or infection exist. In many cases doctors can use both the MRI and PET scans. The risk is minimal because of the small amount of the radioactive drug introduced into the system.

The use of these two different scans enables doctors to explore the chemical and physical aspects of the brain. They are a new tool in the search for an ever evolving search for viable treatments of neurological disorders.
