Houston Medical Equipment Definitions
Why would Houston’s full service medical equipment company have a blog with definitions?
We know that there may be staff members from medical facilities who may be asked to make initial searches to find medical equipment in Houston, Texas and throughout the United States.
These staff members may be support staff who have not actually had a medical education to know clearly what they are researching. We hope these definitions will be a help to them when discussing these things with their superiors and doctors in their facility.
This equipment might include pre-owned, used medical equipment, medical equipment parts or companies that will install or de-install medical equipment or even companies that do medical equipment facilities construction.
C-Arm – an imaging device based on the X-ray. It has an arm that is C-shaped which connects the X-ray source and X-ray detector to one another.
CT Scanner – computerized tomography, computerized axial tomography – equipment that uses a computer to take data from more than one X-ray image and converts them into images on a monitor.
MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses a magnetic field and radio waves. This magnetic field and radio waves make images of the patient’s organs and tissues. Many of them are actually tube-shaped magnets. The magnetic field temporarily realigns hydrogen atoms in the patient’s body.
Nuclear Scan Medical Equipment – Use radioactive substances in order to view structures and functions inside the body. A camera that detects radioactivity. Prior to the test the patient inhales, swallows, or is injected with a radioactive material.
PET – Positron Emission Tomography S – uses a radioactive substance, a tracer. It shows whether organs and tissues are working correctly.
X-Ray – A camera which uses electromagnetic waves which penetrate. As the waves come in contact with the film, they expose it. Various masses inside the body absorb X-rays at different levels. The images on the film show specific structures inside the body.
